How to Get Your Can-Am 3-Wheel Vehicle Ready for Storage

How to Get Your Can-Am 3-Wheel Vehicle Ready for Storage

STEP 1: Inspect Your Ride

A thorough look through the nooks, crannies and moving parts is the first step. This allows you to address any maintenance concerns you might discover during the off-season, so you don’t lose precious riding time at the beginning of next season.

There’s a few things to play close attention to. Sometimes working from the ground up can be the easiest. Check wheels and tires for any cracking in the rubber or wheel itself. Check tread depth to make sure nothing needs replacing before your next ride. Take a rag and check under the vehicle for any fluid leaks. Then work your way up the vehicle looking for any signs of significant wear or damage to the plastics, seats, and other finishes. Before you move on, double check that there are no maintenance lights showing on your dash.

STEP 2: Can-Am Oil and Filter Change

Changing the oil in your Can-Am 3-wheel vehicle is a vital part of storage preparation. You want to remove the old oil and its season-worth of contaminants. Adding fresh oil will make sure there are no contaminants doing damage to those critical engine components while your ride is tucked into storage.

An XPS oil change kit for your specific engine is the ideal solution to accomplish this task in an efficient and economical way. It has everything you need in one box right from your local Can-Am On-Road dealer, including filter, replacement O-rings and the right amount of XPS oil you need for your Rotax engine.

STEP 3: Fluid Check

There are a few other fluids to check before storing your Can-Am On-Road vehicle. Coolant, brake fluid and clutch oil should all be inspected for proper operating level. Each also needs to be changed at periodic maintenance intervals. Refer to the maintenance schedule in your operator’s guide for the proper timing on changing each fluid. XPS offers replacements for all three that have been rigorously tested and engineered for your specific Can-Am On-Road 3-wheel vehicle, so you can rest easy knowing the formula is exactly what your ride is craving.

STEP 4: Inflate Tires

This step is sometimes overlooked but storing your vehicle with low tire pressure can lead to expensive problems down the road. Flat spots on the tires can develop and they may not inflate to round again. This can lead to premature failure. Check your operator’s guide or your tire for proper inflation information.

STEP 5: Wash Your Can-Am On-Road Vehicle

Washing any vehicle always seems to be a question of, “Do I have time?” With the XPS family of vehicle care products for your on-road vehicles, the answer is emphatically, “Yes!” With fast-acting, easy-to-use formulas engineered for the unique finishes of your Can-Am 3-wheel vehicle, XPS makes it easier than ever to remove the dust and grime and keep it looking fresh.

Most XPS care products can be applied with a simple 3-step spray, wipe and rinse process. Start with the XPS All-Purpose Cleaner and Degreaser, then give it a deep clean with the Moto Foaming Wash. Each is engineered for the unique surfaces of your Can-Am On-Road Vehicle and not only cleans but leaves a protective finish that reduces static to keep dust away from your ride during storage. A quick shot of the XPS Black Plastic and Rubber Restorer will keep your tires and other rubber and wax finishes on your vehicle preserved and looking great for next season.

Lubricate Moving Parts

When you add up all the little things like cables, latches, key barrels, hinges and other pivot points, there are a lot of moving pieces to your Can-Am On-Road vehicle. Think beyond the mechanicals and even consider accessory components that may need lubrication as well.

XPS has maintenance of all those moving parts covered with Anti-Corrosive Lubricant for things like hinges, key barrels and levers. Don’t forget about those pivot points on your suspension that have been working hard all season. Some fresh XPS Synthetic Suspension Grease added to those grease zerks will have your ride treating you right as soon as next season rolls around.

Once you’ve got all the parts lubricated, don’t forget to close and latch all storage compartments to keep any unwanted off-season guests out.

Find a Final Resting Place

When you’re ready to tuck your adventure partner away for the season, be sure to find a dry place out of the sunlight. Cover it with a permeable tarp that allows airflow but keeps unwanted dust and other debris away. This will prevent premature wear and fading from the sun and keep pre-season preparation to a minimum when that first ride of next season comes.

Tend to the Battery

The recommended best practice for your Can-Am On-Road vehicle is trickle charging your battery once a month. There’s no need to remove the battery from the vehicle, so check that your long-term storage parking has an outlet nearby. That little monthly battery refresh will help maximize battery life and have it ready to go when you are.

If you have any questions on how to perform the long-term storage steps outlined here, consult your Can-Am On-Road operator’s guide or check with your local dealer. We hope these steps help you get the most out of every mile of many adventures to come.
